This Day's Route: Home [1] to I-985, turned into highway 23, north to
Cherokee, NC and start of Blue Ridge Parkway [3], stopped at the Mt. Pisgah
campground [5].
After arriving home I spent a few days performing preventive maintenance on the bike and planning the next leg of the trip. I'd heard much about the Canadian Maritime Provinces, Nova Scotia in particular, but had never been there so this destination was given a high priority. In addition, this was the latter part of the originally planned route. Since I'd already been to Alaska and most of mainland Canada several times I decided to make the trek to New England and the Maritime Provinces for the next segment.
I chose to take the Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline Drive (part of the Shenandoah National Park) both ways as an alternative to congested highways and Interstates. The intent was to enjoy some great scenery while avoiding major metro areas as much as possible.
A few scenes from the Blue Ridge Parkway.
The Devil's Courthouse, Mile 422.
Taking a break at the Devil's Courthouse. The second leg of this trip is off
to a great start!
The Devil's Courthouse tunnel.
After setting up camp I ventured over to the Mt. Pisgah Inn restaurant where I had an exceptional pasta dinner at a very reasonable price. The Inn would be a very good place to get away for a weekend retreat at some future date. Check out some of the outstanding views from Mt. Pisgah.
